Small details
Matthew 25: 14-30
I remember studying this parable years ago and being confused. (Go ahead and get your Bible and read it now or look it up online. Those words will have more of an impact on you than anything I could ever type.)
Most of the sayings of Jesus left me drawing a blank because I was trying to fit it all into my scope of the world. By that, I mean that I had been taught a standard of right and wrong, good and bad, principles, religion, worldview. So much of that kept me for beginning to know God or understand His character and love for His children.
Many Christians are fervently seeking God, begging to hear form Him, trying to reach out toward Him and growing weary in the struggle. "He is not meeting me." "I just want to hear His voice!." Yet, behind all of this, the Lord has shown me a deceptive belief that is keeping so many of His children in bondage.
Do you believe that God is only going to talk to you about spiritual things? Are you waiting for Him to lay out the purpose of your life and give you a point by point map of where you are going? Do you believe that He is only going to speak to you if it is something huge of dire consequence? These are false beliefs Beloveds. And they are holding God's voice and hands at bay from you.
When did we forget that God is involved in the small details of our lives? That He teaches us right where we are so that we can learn His voice. Once we learn His voice in the small details, He gives us things in greater and greater increments so that we can exercise our faith through obedience to Him. After all, isn't that what faith is all about?
The parable in the end of Matthew 25 shows us how to encounter and overcome this pervasive and false unbelief within ourselves. The first two servants were given different amounts. One less than half the size of the others. But we see no jealousy by the second servant. His eye is not fixed on the others around him and what they are receiving. Look closely at the third servant: He doesn't have an accurate understanding of his master. He lets fear rule Him, digs a hole to bury the talent, and goes on about His day. He doesn't know or keep His focus on the one he is serving.
Beloveds, if you do not make the time to get to know God and draw close to Him, do not expect Him to pour out on you the deep things of God. If you are making the time to sit before Him to get to know Him better, open your eyes to the small things He is speaking to you about in your life. These are the very places that you will learn His voice and character. His desire is to be your Lord, the Master over all the things in your life. He will not give you the things of the His kingdom until you have given Him rule over your own. You give Him rule of your life and "kingdom" bit by bit.
A friend of mine went through a phase that shows this principle in Scripture perfectly. She was crying out to hear the Lord, wanting to be found obedient, but not hearing His voice as often as she wanted. Then, she started to hear a small voice say, "Go to your kitchen now." She would go. Then she would hear, "Go outside." She would go. He never spoke to her once she got there, but that was not what the exercise in faith-building obedience was about. He was teaching her to listen and obey where she was. I can tell you now that she was found obedient by Him because she hears Him clearly and has produced much fruit for His kingdom. It all began with something small. But Beloveds, God is most certainly in the small details.

I read through the scripture. I don't get it. What does the one thrown in the darkness represent? Why is he thrown into darkness for that? Don't we all not do stuff out of fear? Seems like a harsh punishment. Why would the master give him the talent if he knew that he would throw it away? Isn't the master all knowing? And how is this really connected to hearing God? If you have some insight, email me.
